What it does

• MP3Audio at 128–320 kbps (192 by default).
• MP4Video in the best quality up to 1080p, one file with sound.
• One clickOpen a video, click the icon, pick MP3 or MP4, Download. Files go to your Downloads folder.
• Easy updatesWhen a new version is out, the popup shows “Update now”.

Install on Windows 10 / 11

1. Press Win+X and click Terminal (or Windows PowerShell).
2. Paste this line and press Enter. Wait until it says All set (a few minutes the first time).

   It downloads youtube2mp3 from this site, checks it (SHA-256), and installs what it needs: Python if missing, yt-dlp, ffmpeg. No admin needed. Works with Smart App Control on. Run it again any time to update.
3. Chrome only lets you add the extension by hand, once. In chrome://extensions (the installer opens it):
   1. turn on Developer mode (top right)
   2. click Load unpacked, click the folder box at the top, press Ctrl+V and Enter, then Select Folder (the installer copied the folder path: %LOCALAPPDATA%\youtube2mp3\extension)
   3. click the puzzle-piece icon and pin youtube2mp3
   Already added it before? Just click the reload arrow ↻ on its card.

Other ways

youtube2mp3-setup.exe (193 KB): a normal setup wizard, then step 3.

If Windows says “Smart App Control has blocked part of this app”, you can ignore it as long as downloads work. If Python can’t be installed automatically, get it from python.org (tick “Add python.exe to PATH”) and run the line again.

Install on Mac / Linux

1. Unzip youtube2mp3.zip, open Terminal and run:
   Copycd ~/Downloads/youtube2mp3 bash install.sh
   It downloads what it needs. Python 3 must be installed (python.org).
2. In Chrome: chrome://extensions → Developer mode → Load unpacked →
   Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/youtube2mp3/extension (press Cmd+Shift+G to paste the path)
   Linux: ~/.local/share/youtube2mp3/extension
3. Pin youtube2mp3.

On your phone (Android & iPhone)

A private web app at smartapz.com/y2m: paste a YouTube link (or share it from the YouTube app) and get the MP3 (192 kbps, videos up to about 2 hours). It works in the phone’s browser; nothing to install from an app store. You log in once with the password (provided separately).

Opens smartapz.com/y2m full screen, like a regular app, and shows up in YouTube’s Share menu. When installing, Android may ask you to allow installs from Chrome (Install unknown apps). Not from Google Play. Or skip the APK and use the steps below.

Android (Chrome)

1. Open smartapz.com/y2m in Chrome and log in.
2. Tap ⋮ → Add to Home screen (or Install app) → Install.
3. To use it, in the YouTube app tap Share → youtube2mp3. The download starts by itself, and the MP3 goes to your Downloads. You can also open the app and paste a link.

iPhone (Safari)

1. Open smartapz.com/y2m in Safari and log in, then tap Share → Add to Home Screen.
2. To use it, copy the link in YouTube (Share → Copy link), open youtube2mp3, tap Paste → Download MP3 → Save MP3. The file goes to the Files app (Downloads).
3. Optional: one tap from the YouTube share sheet. Set up the iPhone Shortcut once; the steps and your device token are at smartapz.com/y2m/iphone.html (log in first). After that, in YouTube tap Share → More → youtube2mp3, and choose where to save the MP3.

Updates

Click Update now in the popup when it says “Update available”. That’s it. If you loaded the extension from a different folder, download the latest extension, unzip it over your extension folder and click the reload arrow ↻ on the youtube2mp3 card in chrome://extensions. The helper also keeps yt-dlp up to date by itself (daily, and right away when YouTube refuses a download). If downloads still stop working, paste the one line again (Mac/Linux: bash install.sh).
